Mission Statement:

To increase the public awareness and knowledge of the profession and skills of the Land Surveyor.

For the Land Surveyor, to aid in an effort to educate the public about the importance of our profession and work ethic.

For the Profession of Land Surveying, to promote the positive, unique qualities in our profession of which so many people are presently unaware.

For the consumer in need of a Land Surveyor, by making available a nationwide registry of Licensed Land Surveyors, using a professionally designed, easy to use web site.

Why www.LandSurveyor.US?

Land Surveyors in the United States have had two major problems.

First, the general public does not know what Land Surveyors do.
It is common to have people ask us in the field what you are taking pictures of, when we are using our instrumentation. Or, many people have either surveyed themselves, or have a friend or relative who knows all about surveying from when they did it during summer sessions in college. Land Surveyors are asked: can't you just find the “stake”? With questions like that, it seems as if metal locators for sale and rent could put many out of business. Land Surveying is far more complex than that, but it is still an occupation which has a foundation of common sense.

Second, Land Surveyors do not advertise and market, because they are a professional practice.
The Yellow Pages work for some, are expensive, and most people do not know what to look under. Local State Land Surveyors associations certainly mean well when providing referral services, but the public does not know about them, and cannot easily find them. The best form of exposure that a Land Surveyor commonly has is the sign on the survey truck.

This website follows a technical/creative idea that will benefit Land Surveyors and the profession of Land Surveying. This business was created to make it happen. We will pursue the two major problems that Land Surveyors have, namely help educate the public, and make it easy for people to contact a Land Surveyor in their area.

What we do, and do not do:

Return to the top of page

We educate the public, and provide an Internet-based (E-mail) linking service to subscribing, licensed Land Surveyors in the United States. We verify the licensure of each Land Surveyor upon enrollment as a member of this site.

Does our licensed Land Surveyor, participate in the listings? No. His license number might be seen on promotional information used as an example, but he is not included in the database of participating listing Land Surveyors.

We do not warrant any of the services provided by any Land Surveyor to a client.

This web site in no way replaces or substitutes for the services of licensed professionals practicing in any State, nor does it diminish the need for the services of practicing attorneys, Land Surveyors or any other land service providers. We mean to supply convenient educational information only, relative to the practice of Land Surveying, specific to within the United States of America.

LandSurveyor.US advises the public to contract the services and advice of a professional Land Surveyor, licensed to practice in their State of residence. (Often, your licensed professional Land Surveyor will also advise you to contact an attorney to settle questions or problems of a legal matter.)

We may supply links to other sites, having beneficial information to the public. Posting of external links is done at our discretion. Requests for links to be posted on LandSurveyor.Us may be accepted or rejected, at our discretion.

We do not distribute, give away, or sell any information related to listing members, or visitors submitting searches using our Search Wizard. This gives the public an un-biased approach to the task of finding a Land Surveyor.

Land Surveyors indicate specific locations of their intent to practice Land Surveying. These locations (Counties) may be changed, free of charge to any subscribing Land Surveyor on our site.

Expertise of our Land Surveyor/ Webmaster:

32 years experience in Land Surveying.

Two of these years were spent in school for Civil Technology and Land Surveying, and interning with a Land Surveyor in the Lakes area of northern Minnesota. Graduated 1977, Civil Technology & Land Surveying, at top of class.

Eight of these years were spent working for a Civil Engineering/Land Surveying firm. Jobs ranged from the lot surveys to subdivision plats, to Interstate highways, bridges, new homes, roads, and utility construction staking.

For 5 years, he authored and taught two evening school Land Surveying courses at Dunwoody Institute . He has served as an adjunct professor at St. Paul College, in the Geomatics Program, specializing in GPS Technology.

He has been employed in the public sector of Land Surveying for the last twenty two years. Many of the questions his office receives is of the nature of two questions:

First, the general public questions about the need for a Land Surveyor. Many people believe that the local government agency they live in always has a Land Surveyor who holds all the details of the property lines where they live, and they can just have the local government agency come out and point out the property lines and corners. People also believe that all land is always Surveyed, they just have to find the Survey certificate or drawing filed someplace. This generally leads to giving people a great deal of advice and information about Land Surveying. He has tried to incorporate many of these common questions about Land Surveying in this website.

Second, people want a government office to refer them to a Land Surveyor to do work for them. To this question, they refer the people to the yellow pages. We feel that within a two year period, most people will leave the yellow pages and opt for the Internet based search for services which they are now using extensively. (Where do you look for a car? A movie? A camera?) The list goes on and on.

Currently an Information Technology Professional on a departmental level, specializing in and advancing both Internet and Intranet web development projects.

What next for LandSurveyor.US?

We are now busy promoting and building our nationwide Internet-based (E-mail) linking system for the general public to contact Land Surveyors across the USA. Our optimum placement within major search-engines is one of the best places to be prominently viewed by the ever increasing computer-literate public users. Extensive research and cutting edge web development techniques have been built into the site www.LandSurveyor.US to accomodate the numerous potential clients of U.S. Land Surveyors who access the Web using search engine technology.

We have chosen to make it very inexpensive for Land Surveyors to participate in this program ($50 per year). We feel this will make it worthwhile to join our listings, from companies to the individual Land Surveyor. The idea is designed to let the Land Surveyor have the benefit of participating in our service because they hold their current license to practice.

We welcome educational materials, comments, articles, artwork and photographs which we may post as informative to both Land Surveyors, Land Survey technicians, and the general public.

Tell your friends, tell us what you think of our site. If you are a Professional Land Surveyor, we hope you will subscribe to our site, for both the potential client E-mails you may receive, and the support of our endeavors to promote Land Surveying.

Thanks for stopping by, we do appreciate your time.
